Important questions/keys to being a careful and Green consumer:
~Bring your own bag!!

~Buy brands with sensible packaging:  fruits don’t need plastic wrap

             ~Buy recyclable or reusable products

                           ~Buy recycled products when available.
Product labels indicate the amount of recycled content
.

                                      ~Buy organic!!

Just about everything you buy comes in packaging — bags and boxes; bubble wrap and peanuts cartons, jars, and bottles. Packaging protects your purchases from damage, dirt, and tampering. It provides information about the product, its ingredients, directions for use, and how to contact the
manufacturer with questions or concerns.

According to the University of California at Santa Cruz waste reduction program, only about 9% of the cost of a box of cereal is for the cereal — the other 91% of the cost is for the package and advertising. The next time you go shopping, consider some of the following concepts:

~Buy items loose and avoid unnecessary packaging.

~Buy the largest possible size. Larger containers produce less waste and are
cheaper per ounce than smaller sizes.

~Avoid single-serve products, like individually wrapped cereal boxes or fruit cups.
~Buy concentrates and add your own water.
~Choose reusable or recyclable packaging.
~Say “no bag, thanks” if you’re buying only a few small items,
or bring your own re-usable bag.

Did you know that if every American home replaced just one light bulb with a compact fluorescent
bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year,
more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent
to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars?

Did you know that leaving your desk top computer on 24 hours a day costs $35/month?
This small and slightly time consuming effort of turning it on and off everyday would not only
save you a few hundred dollars a year, but would also reduce the carbon footprint
of your home or office.

Truly every little effort helps
